Dealing With Fear

Fear has no place in your mind, leave no room for it. Do not accommodate it – (For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind; II Timothy 1:7).

It is the devil that plants fear. Thus, you must fight it immediately, so it doesn’t take over you.

The present situation in Nigeria is rather precarious. Fear is literally in the air. You’re traveling, fear. You’re at home, fear. You’re investing, fear. You’re chasing your dreams, fear.

What then do we do in the face of fear?

  • Let Love: (There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love; I John 4:18) Verse 12 of that same chapter encourages to love one another. Only then is God’s love perfected in us.
  • Know that God is with you: Psalms 23:4 expresses this clearly. (Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me). And if you struggle to feel the presence of God, meditate on His word and live by it.
  • Pray: The Bible wants us to pray without ceasing. Ask God to show you His presence. Go ahead, ask. God answers prayers. This is true, and it is proven. (I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears; Psalms 34:4).
  • Fear the Lord your God: Unlike the aforementioned kind of fear, the fear of God brings peace of mind. (Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all; Ecclesiastes 12:13).

What ails you? Yes, the world is cruel at times, and it is unfair. But there’s perfect peace in Jesus Christ. And it is demonstrated in His love for us. This same kind of love, He expects us to show our fellow humans — every single one of them.

I found this article particularly helpful. Most of my points were were culled from it.
